Zimpli Kids: Sensory Activities For Toddlers

My husband and I have an almost 3-year-old niece who is full force wild child. I have loved watching her grow and along the way have gained tips and tricks from my sister-in-law.

One thing I didn’t know much about was that sensory activities are extremely important for toddlers. I’ve been seeing on Instagram lately a lot of moms doing sensory activities with their kiddos and then my SIL mentioned that any toys or gifts we get, she would appreciate if they were sensory related.

So being pregnant myself, I wanted to learn why moms everywhere were looking for sensory activities and toys and why it is so important for toddler development.

By stimulating your child’s senses and engaging in sensory play, you are helping them develop creatively, socially and emotionally, cognitively, linguistically and physically.

Problems are solved using our five senses and as we develop into adults, we use these senses to navigate through life and assess situations.

According to Educationalplaycare.com, “Sensory play includes any activity that stimulates your young child’s senses: touch, smell, taste, movement, balance, sight and hearing. Sensory activities facilitate exploration and naturally encourage children to use scientific processes while they playcreate, investigate and explore. The sensory activities allow children to refine their thresholds for different sensory information helping their brain to create stronger connections to process and respond to sensory information.”

Toddlers are learning to not only adapt socially to the environment around them but figuring out how to handle all their senses. When you engage in sensory play you are helping them tune in to their senses and teaching them ways to enhance them.

As your toddler transitions from a baby to a toddler, they are learning to trust textures of all sorts. Including food, toys, other people, and basically anything they touch. When you work with sensory play with their hands you are teaching them different textures of various items and showing them they can not only trust but engage with the object. This helps decrease their stress levels.

There are 5 major benefits to sensory play according to educationalplaycare.com.

They are:

  1. Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain’s pathways, which lead to the child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks.
  2. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem-solving skills, and social interaction.
  3. This type of play aids in developing and enhancing memory
  4. Sensory play is great for calming an anxious or frustrated child
  5. This helps children learn sensory attributes (hot, cold, sticky, dry)

After learning about sensory play, I wanted to get my niece a gift they would both love and appreciate. I found the company Zimpli Kids on Instagram which sells innovative products that not only make playtime fun but helps your toddler engage in sensory play.

Zimpli Website and Blog couldn’t describe their company and goals better. They stated, “Technology can often mean that children have more interest in playing with screens rather than activities, but there are many benefits that come from your child taking part in simple things like coloring and interactive play. Sarah J Chinnaraja, Managing Director at Keeko Kids Ltd says that coloring is a great way of letting children express themselves, as well as developing their motor skills and enjoying time relaxing with family members. Another way to get their creative juices is by letting them get hands-on with color and textures, such as those found in our Gelli & Slime Baff products by Zimpli Kids. Encourage your child to explore their play options and let them reap the benefits that have been found below. ”

Instead of developing apps and encouraging activities that disengage toddlers, Zimpli has created products that get their hands and mind working.

Using Zimpli’s Glitter Slime Play   (or any Zimpli Bath/Slime Play) you can help your toddler advance their gross motor skills as well as reduce stress. By encouraging them to focus on something with their hands can provide a sense of calm and decrease the negative thoughts they might be having.

My niece’s personal favorite activity set from Zimpli is the Zimpli Kids Gelli Worlds – 8 Piece Fantasy Playset which you can buy at Walmart. It comes with an inflatable tray to keep the Gelli all in one place! I was afraid it was going to make a mess but my sister-in-law says the tray does an incredible job of keeping it all in one spot and my niece has a blast playing with it for hours. This is a great play on sensory bins. Sensory bins allow toddlers to touch items, see them move, and use their imagination to turn ordinary objects into something out of this world. That’s why the fantasy playset is perfect for sensory play. It comes with figurines to help your toddler build their own world while learning the different textures of the items.

It is important to grow your imagination and Zimpli’s Gelli worlds Fantasy pack is a fantastic way to feed the imagination.

Zimpli has also created the unique and FUN Gelli and Slime Baff. They are a wonderful, mess-free sensory experience and 100% safe. Add the prepackaged mixture to warm bathwater and turn your bath into a Gelli or Slime Baff. Zimpli offers various colors and even GLITTER Gelli Baff options! My sister-in-law said this single handly stopped bathtime meltdowns and thanks to Amazon Prime, has stocked up on all colors. My niece now goes in, picks out her color, and gets ready for her bath- DRAMA FREE.
