♥Books vs movies
My mom hates to go see movies with me if they are based on a book. I am that person that is constantly whispering, “That’s not what happened in the book.”
If a movie comes out that is based on a book then I must read the book first, no ifs ands or buts.
I often tend to like the book better. BUT there are some movies that are better than the books (I can’t believe I admitted that). And some movies that I love as much as the book.
Scroll down to find my top favorite book vs movies and see which one I liked best!
Gone Girl Books vs movies
This book was AMAZING! I didn’t want to put it down and it started my love for thrillers. The movie is one of my favorites and was on par with the book, which is a rare thing for me.

The Girl on the Train Books vs movies
I know I’ll be alone on this, but I didn’t enjoy the book that much. Maybe it was head space when I was reading it, or the constant back and forth of the chapters. BUT, I loved the movie and even bought it, so I can watch it whenever. I even made my husband watch it and he enjoyed it.
Book or Movie: Movie
Wild
Once again this was one where I loved the movie more than the book. The movie is my go to whenever I am having a bad day or feeling lost in life. It instantly picks me up and has a special place in heart. However, the book fell flat for me.
Book or Movie: Movie
Harry Potter Series
I think we can all agree that Harry Potter in any form can never go wrong. I’m not going to even start the debate of which is better. There was just no way I was going to leave it off this list.
Book or Movie: Both
The Circle
This book actually scared me a little because technology can take over one day, leaving us with zero privacy. However, it was a book I thoroughly enjoyed! Because I enjoyed the book so much I was thrilled to learn that it would be a movie. However, the movie didn’t capture the madness for me as well as the book did.
Book or Movie: Book
The Mountain Between Us
This book literally took me a day to finish because it was THAT good. But when it came to the movie I actually got bored. Sometimes when a book is turned into a movie you lose a lot of the private thoughts of the characters, which for me makes the book. I enjoy the intimate connection I form with characters and in this movie that was lost.
Book or Movie: Book
Room
Warning: both the book and movie touch on difficult, trigger subjects. If you are sensitive or triggered by abuse/sexual assault I would not recommend either.
Both the movie and book captured the story and characters perfectly. Ma’s defeat, private thoughts and love for her son were something I was worried about being lost in the movie. However, they did an incredible job and made it a tough choice on which I liked better.

Handmaid’s Tale Books vs movies
While this isn’t a movie, it must be mentioned. I read the book years and years ago, but it also stuck with me (maybe because it scared the crap out of me). Then when the show came out on Hulu I was hooked from the first second. The show has made the book come alive in such an amazing way. While, the show ventures away from the book, I have no complaints. Is it time for season 3 yet?!?!
Book or Movie: Both
This is just a short list of movies based on books. I wanted to share the ones that have stuck in my mind. Now, I must go buy Crazy Rich Asians so I can read it before the movie! (Don’t worry I’ll update you on which I liked better)
Happy Reading! Books vs movies
