How far does the apple fall from the tree?
You’ll be asking yourself that question throughout the book. Milly’s mom is a serial killer, “the Peter Pan Killer” because she kills small children. Milly loves her mother, but the only way to get her to stop is to turn her into the police. That’s when Milly is finally given a fresh start- a new identity, a new home, and a new exclusive private school. But Milly has secrets and life at her new home becomes complicated. As the trail for her mom looms closer, with Milly as the star witness, Milly starts to wonder how much of her is nature and how much is nurture. Is she doomed to turn out like her mom after all? When tensions rise and Milly feels trapped, she must decide will she be good or is she bad?
I read a lot of thrillers, but this one sent shivers down my spine a couple times. The horrors that Milly endured were rough to read. Milly’s inner thoughts were also creepy, and you knew that she was deeply troubled. I found myself rooting for her and for her to realize that she doesn’t have to become like her mother.
This book can be a little predictable at times but truly leaves you with chills down your back. It also makes you ponder Nurture vs Nature. I highly recommend but don’t read at night alone!!
Thanks for reading,
