With over 100 books on my shelves that I haven’t read yet, I tend to get overwhelmed on what to read next. Then, I add to the chaos and buy more (I seriously should not be allowed to have money).
I have books from years ago that I was so excited to read, that are still sitting there waiting to be opened. How does a bookworm decide what to read next?
I’ve seen people on Bookstagram that make a physical list every month of books that they want to read and stick to it. Some have a jar with titles that they pick at random. Some just pick books based on their mood.  What do I do?
I have always been a mood reader. I get into these moods where all I want to read are thrillers. Then one day I just want some chick lit. All about balance right?Â
Some people emotional eat, I mood read.
If my life is chaotic and I’m stressed out I don’t want to read something that is going to make me do much thinking.  This is where the perfect beach read comes in. Elin Hilderbrand is my go to for the perfect summer read. Her writing is so beautiful, and you feel like you are on Nantucket every time you open her books.
Then, I have days where I want a good thriller, something that will have me questioning everything. Lisa Gardner is my go to for days like this. She has become my favorite author and her stories have so many twists and turns, making me feel like I’m on a rollercoaster.
Other days I might want something that will make me think or question life, the world, or society. Books that will give me a glimpse of a different world than mine. Right now, books like Red Clocks, Little Fires Everywhere or An American Marriage are sitting on my shelf, waiting to be picked.
The beautiful thing about books is that there are so many different genres and stories to tell. No matter what you are feeling, there is something waiting to be picked up by you.
Happy Reading!
