As you climb up the mountain you are leaving the hustle of Los Angeles behind and literally are above the clouds. You are leaving behind the daily stresses, always needing to be on the go, and given a true opportunity to un-plug and connect with nature and your loved ones.

We left for the Getaway House after work and arrived just before midnight. As we made the journey up the mountain towards Big Bear area, we were met with a breathtaking view of all of Los Angeles at night. It was the perfect reminder of what we are leaving behind and what we have awaiting us. And as we ended our vacation and made our way home during the early morning, we found ourselves above the clouds. It was a beautiful farewell to the incredible weekend we had.

Getaway House is just 30 minutes from Big Bear and 20 minutes from Lake Arrowhead. Nestled in Running Springs, CA, the Outpost offers mountain views and endless scenic spots to explore around Big Bear Lake.

We weren’t sure what to expect but I can tell you it exceeded every expectation we had. When we arrived a light was left on and it was very easy for us to find our Outpost. We opened the doors to this tiny house with a floor to ceiling window, a hot shower, and a comfortable bed.

Waking up in the morning was like waking up from one dream to be greeted with another. The sun was shining through the treetops, birds were playing outside our window, and my husband had coffee brewing on the electric stove inside the cabin. Honestly, writing this blog is making me itch to go back and I am looking up their next availability. If you have been considering booking a Getaway House in any of their locations across the United States- DO IT. In this blog I will share 5 things you need to know when booking your stay and will focus on the Getaway House in Big Bear, CA with some recommendations at the end of things to do!

1. Getaway House has a functional kitchen:We were surprised to find in the tiny house an electric stove, tea kettle, plates/cups, pots/pans, knives and silverware. It had everything we needed to be able to cook all three meals without ever leaving. But if you do need to leave or haven’t had a chance to get groceries, at the Big Bear location, there was a diner and a grocery store less than one mile up the road. We had breakfast at the diner our first morning and then stocked up at the grocery store for meals for the next few days.
2. It is encouraged to un-plug
   Provided in each cabin is a lockbox for you to store your phone while enjoying the various amenities. Card games, books, hiking trails, and more are all provided at your Outpost and make it so easy to un-plug and enjoy the moment. While our cabin did have service, there are no tvs and with the view right-outside your window, you don’t need one.

3. Each cabin has hot water and a full shower
   The Getaway House is the perfect “glamping” experience. Each cabin has a full shower, toilet, and hot running water inside. You don’t have to walk a mile up the road to use campsite showers or use the bathroom. Our water got warm fast and was a true luxury from home we were happy to have with us. ESPECIALLY after Addy spent all day exploring in the dirt.
4. Campfires are encouraged
   As long as theres not a “no burn” notice, you are able to enjoy story time around the campfire. They included for an additional cost campfire supplies, fire starter, and a s’mores kit. There are also 2 chairs available and even a grill grate on top of the campfire if you would like to roast hot dogs or make burgers

5. You will never want to leave
   Seriously. Usually after a long weekend you are ready to get back to the swing of things at home. But when it came time to leave here we seriously did not want to go. We had such an amazing time as a family exploring the surrounding area, being out in nature, and taking full advantage of all the amenities the Getaway House had to offer! It was comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed to make ourselves at home.

SkyPark at Santa’s Village

There was actually so much to do in Running Springs that we didn’t go into Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear. But if we wanted to, it was only a 20 minute drive either way. We were there for 2 nights so we explored the surrounding areas and our Outpost. Like I said, the time flew by and we never ran out of something to do.

Our favorite thing we did that we did not expect to love as much as we did was SkyPark at Santa’s Village. We spent ALL DAY HERE. They had so much to do for adults and kids. Plus it is a year-round Santa Village. It has various restaurants, drinks, mountain biking, axe throwing, play areas, go-carts, rolling skating, face painting, and of course, pictures with Santa. When it came time to leave we literally had to throw Addy over our shoulder and drag her out screaming. ‘
